The Bronzed Adonis – A Glittering Career
Steve is a true legend in the world of darts.
He is still currently playing top level darts on the PDC circuit and is still in the elite top 32 in the world.
Steve is one of the most popular characters in the game on and off the oche.
He is known as the ‘Bronzed Adonis’, this nickname stuck after Tony Green called him this when commentating on his match in the World Championships back in the 90’s.
Steve and his wife Nanette always went to the Tenerife for a holiday in December back in those days so Steve always had a tan when the World Championships started.
He has also been known as ‘Magnum P.I’ due to his likeness of the actor Tom Selleck.
More recently due to his keep fit regime and running in events to raise money for charities he has been referred to as ‘The Marathon Man’.
Steve made his World Championship debut in 1992.
He won the Winmau World Masters in 1993 and also turned professional in the same year.
Steve became World Champion in 1996.
Steve was part of the England Team for 10 years and very proud to wear the shirt.
He won the man of the match award on his debut game against Scotland.
He was capped 28 times for England and was World’s No 1 for three consecutive years 92/93 93/94 94/95.
The Bronzed Adonis switched from the BDO to the PDC in 2001 after winning many tournaments.
Steve commentates regularly for Eurosport.
Steve is a fair golfer with a 9 handicap and loves a relaxing day on the golf course and is also part of the Celebrity golf Tour which raises money for different charities.
