Andrew Gilding denied me a birthday win with a 6-4 victory in the afternoon session’s final game, finishing six doubles from seven attempts in a clinical display of darts.
Gilding took out 74 in two darts for an immediate breaks of throw before doubling his lead on tops, then I hit back in the third by taking out 124 on the bull after the we traded 180s.
Gilding replied with another maximum and double 12 for a 13-darter, then I took out my second 124 on bull to pull back to 3-2.
Double four moved Gilding 4-2 up after the we again swapped maximums, I replied by taking out 72 only to miss two darts at double 12 to level as a 60 finish on tops maintained Andrew’s flawless finishing with a fifth successive double.
I landed a 177 in a 14-darter to keep my hopes alive at 5-4, but missed the bull to finish 121 to force a decider, allowing Gilding in to finish double ten to seal the win.
“It was a tough game but I played well averaging 94.73 and Andrew 96.00 and I have just got to look forward to next weekend in Barnsley. “
